Staines-upon-Thames is a town located in northeast Surrey, England, approximately 17 miles (27 km) from central London. The town is situated near the borders of Berkshire and Greater London and is easily accessible via the A30 and A308 roads, which link it to the M25 and M3 motorways, respectively.

The town centre is located close to the point where the rivers Colne and Thames meet, and the former millstream, Sweeps Ditch, used to run to the east of the High Street. However, much of the course of the millstream has been diverted underground in the 20th century.

The area southeast of the town centre, where the borough council offices and magistrates’ courts are located, is known as Knowle Green. On the south side of the Thames is Egham Hythe, which is connected to Staines by Staines Bridge.

Staines has experienced severe flooding events in the past, with notable incidents occurring in 1894, 1947, and 2014. Despite these challenges, Staines has remained a thriving town with a range of cultural and recreational attractions, including parks, museums, and theatres.
