Northwood is a suburb located in the northwest of Greater London, in the postal code area HA4. The area has a rich history
dating back to the medieval period, but it underwent significant development in the 19th and 20th centuries.
During the 19th century, Northwood was primarily a rural area with scattered farms and cottages. The arrival of the Metropolitan Railway in 1887 and the extension of the line to Northwood in 1907 spurred significant development in the area. This led to the construction of new housing estates and the growth of a middle-class residential community.
During World War II, Northwood played a significant role in the war effort as the site of the RAF Northwood airfield, which served as the headquarters for the Royal Air Force’s Fighter Command. After the war, the airfield was decommissioned, and the land was used for residential and commercial development.
