Longford is a suburban village
located in the London borough of Hillingdon, England. Positioned immediately northwest of London Heathrow Airport in the same borough, it is the westernmost settlement in Greater London and is very close to the borders of both Berkshire and Surrey.
Longford used to be a part of Harmondsworth, but only by tithes, land tax, vestry, and Church of England parish, as it never had its own church. Therefore, it can also be regarded as a hamlet. The settlement grew by the multi-channel ford of the River Colne and its distributaries, which posed several challenges for travellers to and from the western edge of Middlesex on the old Bath Road heading west out of London. Longford may have originated from a small Saxon settlement dating back to the 5th to 7th century AD. There are historic buildings that have survived the medieval and immediate post-medieval periods. Prior to 1965, Longford was located in the historic county of Middlesex.
