Hayes has a rich history, dating back to
medieval times, as evidenced by its appearance in the Domesday Book of 1086. The area is home to several landmarks, including the Grade II* listed St Mary’s Parish Church, which dates back to the twelfth century and remains in use, as well as the Grade II listed Barra Hall manor house. The town’s oldest public house, the Adam and Eve, has been in operation since 1665, though the current building is not the original seventeenth-century structure.
Hayes is also well-known as the former home of EMI, a major British music company. The town’s Old Vinyl Factory was where The Beatles’ albums were manufactured, and the words “Hayes, Middlesex” appear on the back of some of their records.
